Course Aims:
§ Science can be studied in a creative environment using drama techniques. This approach suits the preferred learning style of many youngsters. When drama is used well, children develop a better understanding of concepts and have a lot of fun. This course will show some the techniques involved and give delegates practice in using them.
Course Outline:
§ The first part of the day ‘Exploring Science through Mime and Physical Theatre’ takes participants through a variety of exercises that illustrate known and unknown mechanisms.
q Many ideas are covered can be reproduced in the classroom.
q Other exercises widen the teacher’s vocabulary by demonstrating new ways of illustrating the physical world and enabling them to create their own material. Forces, gravity, changes of state and properties of materials are some of the concepts explored.
§ Later in the day, ‘Placing Science in a Narrative Context’ shows how, by using drama techniques, children can write their own plays around the science.

§ Participants will return to schools with the confidence to try some drama in science lessons and with ideas for producing short plays to illustrate scientific ideas.
